According to a release from the Bay Village Police Department, officers responded to multiple reports of someone firing a gun at Reese Park at approximately 9:19 p.m. on Sunday. Officers from Westlake and Rocky River were also dispatched to the scene "to address the situation and ensure the safety of all residents in the area."

Once police arrived, they discovered that an altercation took place between males who were playing basketball. Preliminary evidence suggests that a single gunshot was fired in what Bay Village police believe is an isolated incident. Officers spoke with numerous witnesses, collected evidence, and continue to investigate the incident.

No injuries have been reported, however out of an abundance of caution, the basketball courts at Reese Park will be temporarily closed.

Bay Village police say this is the first gun incident at Reese Park. In the past year, no serious reports from the park have been filed, and people shouldn't be concerned of an ongoing issue.

Residents and people who visit the park told 3News they aren't scared to be at the park.

"You know, 50 of us just showed up to play pickleball for the last three hours here, so I don't think anything's gonna change," said Melinda Masino, of Avon Lake.

And, some think closing down the courts temporarily is the right move.

"It's a small knit community and everybody kind of knows everybody, so I think they wanna keep it safe," said Jan Carpenter, of Bay Village.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to come forward and contact the Bay Village Police Department at 440-871-1234.
