Infant dies, 2 in critical condition following Bedford house fire

BEDFORD, Ohio — An infant has died and two others are in critical condition following an overnight house fire in Bedford.

According to the Bedford Fire Department, they responded to Forbes Road at around 10:06 p.m. on Thursday after receiving reports of a fire with people trapped inside. 

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found heavy smoke from the second floor along with a child who had escaped from the fire to alert neighbors. 

"Firefighters made an aggressive, offensive attack through the front door and found one adult and one infant both unresponsive," said Bedford fire in a press release.  

Officials say that the infant died on the scene. The adult and child were transported to local hospitals in critical condition. 

Bedford fire also noted that the fire was "found to be in numerous void spaces throughout the house and was challenging for crews to get under control." 

According to the Bedford Division of Fire, the cause of the fire is unknown and is currently being investigated by the State Fire Marshall's Office. 

"Our sincerest condolences go out to the friends and families of those affected by this fire," said Bedford fire.

The Bedford Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Maple Heights, Bedford Heights, North Randall, Oakwood, Northfield Village, Macedonia, Valley View and Solon.
