BEDFORD, Ohio — The Bedford Police Department announced late Friday evening that the body of a woman found in Cleveland's Slavic Village neighborhood has been identified as Breneisha Lightfoot, who was reported missing earlier this week.
The discovery of Lightfoot's body came on the same day that police arrested her boyfriend, Michael Roarty-Nugent. Bedford Deputy Police Chief Rick Suts told 3News that Nugent has been charged with murder. Nugent had previously been named a person of interest in the case.
Nugent's initial court appearance will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Bedford Municipal Court.
Police say that on Tuesday, July 18, a family member of Breneisha Lightfoot contacted police to conduct a welfare check after not being able to reach her on her birthday. Lightfoot's phone was found lying in a person's yard in Cleveland and was turned over to police.
Officers who checked her apartment found evidence "indicating that someone may have been seriously injured there."
Suts says the Bedford Police Department's investigation is continuing.
