Bratenahl officer suffers minor injuries after cruiser struck by alleged drunk driver on I-90

The alleged drunk driver faces a trio of charges.

BRATENAHL, Ohio — A Bratenahl police officer suffered minor injuries when his cruiser was struck by another car overnight.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the officer was assisting in an unrelated issue on Interstate 90 westbound near Eddy Road when the crash occurred.

The officer parked his 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe behind a disabled bus, as it was partially blocking the right lane of traffic. As the officer was sitting in his cruiser with the lights activated, a 2005 Chevrolet Impala crashed into the cruiser.

The 42-year-old officer was treated and released from a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Impala, identified as 61-year-old Vernon Wright, was not injured.

Highway patrol says Wright refused treated and a breathalyzer test. He is charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, driving under suspension and failure to maintain assured clear distance.
