Brookpark Skateland to close for good following September fire

Damage to the building has been deemed too extensive for a rebuild.

After more than 50 years in business, Brookpark Skateland is no more.

The Bradnan family—which owns the venue—announced on Facebook Friday that the iconic roller rink will close for good following a fire back in September. The owners had initially planned to rebuild, but according to them, "fire and smoke damage was very extensive and the age of the building is a big concern."

The fire broke out just after midnight on Sept. 19 and burned for nearly four hours. The cause is still unclear.

"We opened the doors of Brookpark Skateland in 1960 and have had 57 plus years of great patrons, strong competitors, wonderful friends and dedicated employees with 4 generations of our family," the Bradnans' statement read. "We will miss all of you."

Following the fire, dozens of WKYC viewers shared their memories of the rink. You can find those photos here and in the comments below.
