List of beaches to visit near Cleveland during summer 2024

3News has compiled a list of beaches that you can visit across Northeast Ohio.

CLEVELAND — As Northeast Ohio welcomes sunshine and the summer heat, 3News is helping you find the best spots for some beach fun! 

If you are looking for a place to relax or cool off on a scalding-hot day, 3News has a list of some of the best beaches to visit this summer in the greater Cleveland area.

Cedar Point Beach

  •  1 Cedar Point Drive, Sandusky
    • Stretching out along Lake Erie, the mile-long beach and its cooling breezes were Cedar Point’s first attractions more than 150 years ago and very few amusement parks in the world can boast a shoreline as part of the fun! And, best of all, the beach is included with park admission and available to all amusement and water park guests, overnight visitors staying at a Cedar Point property and Season Passholders.

East Harbor State Park Beach

  • 1169 N Buck Road, Lakeside-Marblehead
    • The park features a 1,500-foot sand beach on Lake Erie. Swimming is permitted in designated areas. Other amenities include modern restrooms, changing rooms, outdoor showers and vending machines. Dogs are not permitted on the swim beach.

Edgewater Beach

  • 6500 Cleveland Memorial Shoreway, Cleveland
    • Experience panoramic views of downtown Cleveland from the shore and experience a breath-taking sunset. Edgewater Beach is accessible from both the lower section of Edgewater Park as well as the Upper section. The 2400 foot beach features 1000 feet of swimming access. The westernmost portion of the beach is dog friendly. The beach also provides kayaking access.

Euclid Beach Park 

  • 15891 East 159th Street, Cleveland
    • Once the site of the famous Euclid Beach Amusement Park, Euclid Beach Park now features a 650’ beach with shaded picnic areas, a scenic observation pier and a reservable pavilion. Though it closed in 1969, signs of the amusement park including the shuffleboard area, remnants of the beachside fountain and concrete footers of the Flying Turns roller coaster are still visible.

Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park

  • 301 Huntington Beach Drive, Fairport Harbor 
    • Sandy public beach offering picnic shelter, grills, playground, beach volleyball and canoe/kayak access. Lifeguards on duty 11 am to 7 pm Thursday through Monday weekly through August 11. Sit-on-top ocean kayaks and stand-up paddleboards available for rent 11 am to 7 pm daily through August 11. Concessions available 11 am to 7 pm daily through August 11.

Geneva State Park 

  • 4499 Padanarum Road, Geneva
    • Swimmers rejoice in the beautiful sand beach while nature enthusiasts retreat to the park's freshwater marshes and estuaries. 

Headlands Beach State Park

  • 9601 Headlands Road, Mentor
    • The trademark of Headlands Beach State Park is its massive 35-acre Lake Erie beach. Besides providing exceptional sunbathing and swimming opportunities, Headlands Beach also offers unique beach glass hunting and phenomenal Lake Erie sunset viewing. Picnicking is available throughout the park and a paved hike/bike trail that runs along the park’s back dunes provides excellent views of the beach and lake.

Huntington Beach 

  • 28492-28648 Lake Road, Bay Village
    • Located on Cleveland’s west side, come for a swim or a stroll along the beach and take in the beauty of Lake Erie.

Kelleys Island State Park

  • 920 Division St, Kelleys Island
    • A 150-foot public swimming beach on Lake Erie is located within easy walking distance from the campground.

Lakeview Park 

  • 1800 West Erie Avenue, Lorain 
    • Lorain County Metro Parks’ first lakeside recreational park, Lakeview Park, offers 20 acres along the north side of West Erie Avenue in Lorain, Ohio. This nearby neighborhood park, known for its Historical Rose Garden, spectacular sunsets and views of the Lorain Lighthouse, hosts a variety of recreational opportunities awaiting visitors of all ages, from swimming and sunbathing, to lawn bowling, beach volleyball, picnicking and much more!  

Nickel Plate Beach 

  • Corner of Tiffin Ave and Nickel Plate Dr. Huron,
    • Large sandy public beach with scenic view of the Huron Lighthouse. Parking Fee of $7.00 per vehicle. Picnic shelter, grills, wheelchair accessible, playground, beach volleyball courts, permanent outdoor ping-pong table (bring your own paddles/balls--or see gate attendant) and corn-hole boards (bring your own bags).

Portage Lakes State Park

  • 5031 Manchester Road, Akron
    • The 411-acre Portage Lakes State Park offers visitors a variety of outdoor recreational experiences. Boating options include sailing, jet skiing, and water skiing. Swimming and fishing are popular on eight surrounding lakes.

Sherod Park

  • 13406 W Lake Rd, Vermilion
    • There is 24 acres of fun. This Vermilion Park has a little of something for everyone.  A beach to swim, trails to walk, and a playground.

Wallace Lake 

  • Mill Stream Run Reservation, Berea
    • Soak up the sun and play in the sand at Wallace Lake Beach, located in Berea on Valley Parkway, one mile south of Bagley Road. This 17.6 acre lake was once a quarry that produced some of the finest sandstone in the world. In 1941 the site was flooded to create a lake complete with a sandy beach for summertime fun.

West Branch State Park Beach

  • 5570 Esworthy Road, Ravenna
    • The park offers a 700-foot sand beach with restrooms, changing booths, outdoor showers, and vending machines. Picnic tables and charcoal grills available for public use. Swimming is permitted in designated areas. Please exercise caution while swimming at the beach. Pets are NOT permitted on swimming beaches.
