ST. LOUIS — Marcus Anderson, the man accused of a shooting at the Cleveland Metroparks' Garfield Park Reservation, has been arrested by the U.S. Marshals in St. Louis, Missouri.
Anderson, who was wanted by the Cleveland Metroparks Police Department for attempted murder, was arrested on Tuesday morning at a home in the 2700 block of Utah Street.
Officials say that Anderson was wanted in connection to a June 22 shooting incident that happened at the Red Oak Picnic Area in Garfield Heights.
“The successful apprehension and arrest by the U.S. Marshals Service underscores the value of our law enforcement partnerships,” said Cleveland Metroparks Police Chief Kelly Stillman. “These crimes will not be tolerated and we intend to prosecute this suspect to the fullest extent possible.”
Anderson and another male allegedly "engaged in a verbal altercation that turned violent when the male victim was shot five times," according to the U.S. Marshals.
Following the shooting, Anderson allegedly fled the scene, and the victim was taken to a hospital.
A few weeks later, Anderson was identified as the suspect in the incident, with an arrest warrant issued for him on July 10.
“Another example on display today of the U.S. Marshals Service's local partnerships and nationwide reach. This violent suspect fled over 500 miles to avoid arrest, but diligent efforts of our task force members resulted in him behind bars, now waiting to face the charges against him," said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott.
