PARMA, Ohio — Fans of the HBO show "Succession" likely noticed a reference to Northeast Ohio on Sunday night's episode.
The shoutout to Cleveland in Sunday's episode, titled "Kill List," was made by the character Connor Roy (played by actor Alan Ruck), an aspiring -- and unlikely -- presidential candidate. Discussing changes to his campaign plans with the election approaching, Roy tells his brother, Kendall Roy (played by Jeremy Strong): "I've got a pretty full plate here. OK? I just had to cancel on a room full of working-class whites in Cleveland."
The reference likely wasn't a coincidence.
The actor who made it, Ruck, is a Northeast Ohio native who graduated from Parma Senior High School in 1974. As fate would have it, Ruck -- perhaps best known for playing Cameron in the 1986 film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" -- happened to be back in his hometown this past weekend, attending a fundraiser for the Parma City School District Historical Museum at his alma mater.
The Parma City School District opened its historic museum last September, in an effort to preserve and display "memorable and noteworthy artifacts."
“Our history reminds us of all the people and events that have taken place within the confines of our district, and boy, do we have some awesome alumni and events that we can be very proud to say ‘they were products of the Parma City Schools,'" PCSD Historical Museum Trustee Nancy Fedak said in an article on the district's website.
In 2015, Ruck was inducted into the Parma Senior High School Alumni Association's Hall of Fame. "Succession," which is currently in its fourth and final season, airs on HBO at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday nights.
