Cuyahoga County Community College hosts virtual ceremony for graduates

A virtual ceremony was held for the college's 2,470 graduates.

CLEVELAND — Despite the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, graduation season is in full swing. Even though students can't take the traditional walk across the stage, Ohio colleges are ensuring their graduates still get a chance to celebrate their milestone. 

On Thursday, Cuyahoga County Community College held a virtual ceremony for all 2,470 of its graduates. 

"This class has persevered through a challenging time. Now, they will take the resilience and courage they demonstrated at Tri-C and use it to make their mark on the world," said Tri-C President Alex Johnson.

For the the first time ever, the ceremony was streamed on the College's Facebook page, YouTube channel and SmartTV cable broadcast stations. There ceremony include videos from students and special messages from faculty and staff. 

As a bonus, graduates received yard signs to draw attention to their accomplishment and on Friday, May 15 Cleveland's Terminal Tower will light up teal in honor of the graduates.

In addition to the virtual ceremony, Tri-C plans to gather the spring graduates on December 16 for a traditional commencement, separate from the Fall commencement scheduled for December 17.
