CLEVELAND — Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne announced Friday that he is nominating Sheriff Harold Pretel and Inspector General Alexa Beeler for reappointment.

Pending approval by Cuyahoga County Council, the reappointment of Pretel and Beeler would be for four-year terms.

“Both Pretel and Beeler have demonstrated exemplary service in their respective roles, ensuring that Cuyahoga County continues to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and public safety,” said Ronayne in a statement.

Pretel, a 30-year veteran of law enforcement in Northeast Ohio, has served as sheriff in Cuyahoga County since July of 2023. Prior to becoming sheriff, Pretel worked for the Cleveland Division of Police as the division's deputy chief of homeland special operations. Before coming to the CDP, Pretel served as a corrections officer and later as a deputy sheriff/detective with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department.

"Sheriff Pretel’s commitment to law enforcement reform and community engagement has led to significant improvements in safety, security, and community trust,” added Ronayne.

Beeler has worked as Cuyahoga County inspector general since April 2022, "leading efforts to maintain the integrity of County operations."
