EUCLID, Ohio — A Euclid whose family feared may have been kidnapped on New Year's Eve returned safely to his home on Wednesday.
Fifty-three-year-old Michael Robinson initially left his Euclid residence Sunday night to go to a party but did not return for almost three days. Authorities later called his cell phone and spoke to an unknown man, who told them he had found it in the parking lot of a Sunoco gas station in East Cleveland with blood on it.
A short time after that, Robinson's family said they began receiving texts from his phone number claiming he was being held against his will somewhere at East Cleveland's Terrace Towers apartment complex. However, Robinson eventually came home Wednesday driving his Ford Ranger pickup truck with his phone intact.
Despite the strange circumstance, Euclid police say, "The investigation has been closed." No further explanation was given regarding the potentially threatening messages.
"Thank you for all of your assistance in bringing attention to Robinson's disappearance and we are grateful he is safe," the department wrote.
