CLEVELAND — Those closest to 44-year-old Michelle Wall are heartbroken by her sudden, tragic death on Sunday.
"She's so sweet, you know?" Lakisha Cowsette said. "And they took our family from us. They took her."
Cowsette says she was one of Wall's best friends. Wall was a mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend who was loved by many.
"I'm in pieces," Wall's sister-in-law, also named Michelle, lamented. "I'm in disbelief, because she was just so good and she was on her way to another church service."
Wall was driving on East 156th Street near Interstate 90 in Cleveland on Sunday when she was hit by an alleged stolen car being chased by police. She was ejected from the car and later died.
The pursuit started in Euclid, where city officers said they were trying to pull over a vehicle in connection to a robbery. Video showed the chase on the highway moments before the crash in Cleveland.
"You all could've stopped that chase," Michelle said, "and you all [were] out of [your] district."
Wall's family and friends are now demanding answers and calling for accountability and justice.
"It's all innocent people that [are] just subject to either gun violence or the police chasing somebody, for whatever reason," Cowsette exclaimed.
Cowsette says Wall lit up a room. She was an entrepreneur who loved doing hair and making cakes. She was also very active in her church, sharing her faith with her family.
"She made sure all of us got into that church, she had my kids get baptized, she made sure I was going to church, she helped me get together," Michelle recalled. "When I was struggling going through times, she was there."
Now, they're relying on that faith to help get them through.
"I think it was Regina King that recently said, 'Grief is love that has nowhere to go,' and we've just got to trust God that he gives us peace, He said he would, that he gives us understanding, He said he would," Cowsette said.
