EUCLID, Ohio -- On Tuesday, a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury indicted a former Euclid High School guidance counselor on four counts of sexual battery and one count of tampering with evidence.
According to the EPD, on Jan. 29, the department was contacted by the Assistant Superintendent of the Euclid Public Schools, Dr. Charles Smialek, of an allegation of sexual battery involving a Euclid High School Guidance Counselor and a Euclid High School student.
Police immediately initiated an investigation. EPD says the guidance counselor was identified as Ronetta N. Smith, 36, of Cleveland Heights.
Police say that, at the time of the offense, Smith was employed by the Euclid Board of Education as a Guidance Counselor at the Euclid High School. The victim is an 18-year old Euclid High School student and resident of Euclid, police said.
The investigation uncovered that, beginning in December 2015, Smith engaged in an ongoing sexual relationship with the student.
The Euclid Board of Education placed Smith on leave on Jan. 29 and she subsequently resigned.
