Per authorities, the incident left I-77 North closed for multiple hours and injured two people, including the suspect and an innocent bystander in another vehicle.

CLEVELAND — A Garfield Heights police chase ended with a fiery crash on I-77 North in Cleveland Wednesday afternoon, law enforcement officials tell 3News.

According to Newburgh Heights Police Chief John Majoy, whose department assisted at the scene, Garfield Heights officers began pursuing a homicide suspect in a white Jeep that eventually drove into Cleveland and crashed on I-77 near Fleet Avenue. The Jeep apparently hit another vehicle before flipping over several times and catching fire.

The suspect, who was also the driver, was ejected from the car and into the road, suffering serious injuries. A female passenger inside the Jeep was not hurt, while the innocent bystander driving the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries, per Majoy.

The wreck left I-77 North beyond Fleet closed for multiple hours. All lanes have since been reopened.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved, nor have they shared details of the homicide the suspect is believed to have been involved in.
