GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — On Monday, both teachers and administrators from Garfield Heights will go back to the meeting table to try and resolve a weeks-long contract dispute.
Back in September, the Garfield Heights Teachers Association alerted the district of a 10-day strike district after five months of negotiations.
"They're not hearing us," Garfield Heights Teachers' Union (GHTA) member Susan Hart said back in September. "They're not seeing what the big picture is and that's heartbreaking for me, a teacher who's been teaching for 27 years."
The two sides met with a federal mediator last month to assist in efforts to work out a deal and avoid the strike. 3News confirmed administrators initially rejected GHTA's initial sit-down offers but both sides were eventually able to meet on Oct. 11. Talks will resume on Monday.
Garfield Heights teachers have been working without a contract since the previous collective bargaining agreement expired on June 30.
Last month, the district released the following statement about the negotiations:
"The Garfield Heights City Schools is dedicated to the negotiating process and re-asserts its willingness to reach a fair contract with all parties, while operating within the financial realities of the district."
