CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio — As tensions continue across Northeast Ohio in the aftermath of the George Floyd protests, Heinen's has announced that it is temporarily closing its Chagrin Falls location on Tuesday, June 2.
"Along with our fellow community members, we will continue to monitor potential demonstrations that may impact the safety of our associates and customers. We appreciate your patience and will advise on our website and Facebook page when the store has reopened," the store wrote on social media Monday afternoon.
There had been a 'Rally For Justice' event scheduled to be held in Chagrin Falls on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. However on Sunday, organizer Chase Tuller announced that "due to tragic and systemic injustice of George Floyd and the sudden escalation of events that are occurring in our country, and communities right now I don’t feel it’s appropriate to continue on with our rally for justice protest."
Despite Tuller canceling the event, 3News photojournalist Dominic Ferrante captured this photo of businesses boarding up their front windows on East Washington Street in downtown Chagrin Falls on Monday.
"We will reschedule for a later date when things become less tense and more safe. Know that this final decision to cancel this event was solely up to me as the protest organizer, and was not influenced by any particular person or organization. I’m sorry to anyone who was looking forward to this event, however I feel that this is the most appropriate option," Tuller concluded.
The city of Cleveland remains in a curfew situation for downtown and the Market Garden area of Ohio City until Tuesday evening at 8 p.m.
