Highland Heights police warn residents of coyote spotted near StoneWater Golf Course

Highland Heights police are warning residents to take extra precautions after seeing signs of a 'stalking' coyote.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Highland Heights Police Department has issued a warning after a coyote was spotted near StoneWater Golf Course.

In a Facebook post, Highland Heights police noted that while it is common for coyotes to be present in the area, this particular coyote exhibited unusual behavior, such as “stalking” and not showing fear of humans.

Police warned residents that this behavior can indicate that the animal may become aggressive while searching for food.

Highland Heights police offered the following safety precautions for residents:

  • Be on guard when walking with small children or dogs in the area
  • Try to avoid walking alone
  • Carry pepper spray when walking or jogging
  • Be aware of your surroundings

"If you are being followed by a coyote, please call HHPD immediately (911 is acceptable because we can see the caller on our map) as we will respond to scare him off," said Highland Heights police.

Police also noted that they have contacted wildlife services regarding the coyote.

This post is intended for awareness only. It is not meant to cause panic with our residents. Tonight we were advised...
