A Hudson woman was sentenced to two years in prison today for making false statements related to the purchase of three firearms, according to Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.

Marcia M. Masters, 47, was convicted Feb. 27 following a trial before U.S. District Judge Benita Pearson in Youngstown.

Masters acted as a straw purchaser of a firearm from Semi-Arms Inc. in Broadview Heights, Ohio.

She did this by lying on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Form, falsely stating that she was the actual buyer and recipient of a Smith and Wesson Model 317 .22mm revolver, a Colt Model AR15 .223mm rifle and another Colt Model AR15 .223mm rifle.

She shipped three items from Solon to Los Angeles the day after she purchased the guns, according to court filings.

Steve Farzam, a Los Angeles resident and Masters' friend, sold one of the assault rifles on May 7, 2014 to a confidential informant working for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Masters was employed as an Oakwood Village police officer at the time of the purchases.

Back in 2005, Masters attended the Cleveland Heights Police Academy during the day and was working as a hostess for restaurateur Brad Friedlander at Red the Steakhouse on Richmond Road in Beachwood at night, .

She eventually left the restaurant to work police duty full-time for Oakwood..

Masters was suspended from her job at the Oakwood Village police department.

Assistant United States Attorneys Marisa Darden and Matthew Kall prosecuted the case following an investigation by the ATF.
