It's been more than a year that Topgolf announced it would open its first Northeast Ohio location and yet movement on the 65,000-square-foot facility in Independence has remained mum.
Fear not, however, as the global sports entertainment company confirmed to WKYC on Wednesday that it still plans on opening its Independence location this coming fall.
No exact date has been given for the opening of the Topgolf, which will be located near the Embassy Suites at 5800 Rockside Woods Boulevard.
With 53 locations worldwide -- 49 of which are in the United States -- Topgolf has become a leader in the sports entertainment industry. Topgolf features golf games using microchipped balls that instantly score themselves, showing players the accuracy and distance of their shots on a TV screen in a hitting bay. The venues also feature food, bars, TVs and music for additional entertainment.
Topgolf's Independence location will mark its third in Ohio, with Cincinnati and Columbus area venues having opened in recent years.
