LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Lakewood police are investigating after a 58-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle on Wednesday evening.
According to Lakewood police, the incident happened at around 6:11 p.m. when the pedestrian, identified as Vasilios Safos, was attempting to cross Madison Avenue outside of a crosswalk near Orchard Grove Avenue.
While crossing, police say Safos was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound.
The victim was transported to Fairview Hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.
Lakewood police noted that the driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene.
The vehicle was towed and the driver was released after speaking with officers, according to police.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
