WESTLAKE, Ohio — A store in Westlake is being accused of selling nicotine and illegal THC vapes to underage customers, according to Westlake police officials.
Police say they have been receiving complaints about Magic Flash on Center Ridge Road for "several months" from parents in Northeast Ohio.
"These complaints have come from parents from Westlake and all over the Cleveland area and indicated that their underage children were able to purchase both THC and nicotine vapes illegally from the store and/or its owner," said Westlake police in a media release.
Previously, officers from the Westlake Police Department have stopped several underage individuals who bought different types of vapes illegally. The juveniles told police that they had not been carded when purchasing these items.
Police say they have previously arrested the owner, Khaled Askar, two times for allegedly selling prohibited items to underage individuals.
Westlake police believe that they have tried to solve the problem through criminal enforcement, but have now turned to the Westlake Law Department to help with the matter. On Wednesday, a complaint was filed by Westlake's law department in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas court.
"The Westlake Police and my office have received ongoing complaints about this business selling tobacco and marijuana to underage patrons," said Westlake Law Director Michael Maloney. "These complaints date back many months and were continuing even as we filed this complaint. It was time to address the problem."
