Cuyahoga County sheriff speaks with 3News after 2 people charged with trying to take guns, ammo into Justice Center

A 21-year-old man and his mother were both arrested. No one was hurt and officials say 'no other threats were detected,' with the building never being locked down.

CLEVELAND — Two people are in custody after a man allegedly tried to take two firearms into the Cuyahoga County Justice Center Wednesday morning.

Officials say the 21-year-old Lanell Williams and his mother Andrea Williams came to the facility just after 9 a.m. when the metal detector went off as they entered. Sheriff's deputies then searched the man's bag that had been on the conveyer belt and found the weapons as well as an extended magazine and boxes of ammunition.

County officials confirmed one of the guns was a Masterpiece arms gun while the other is a Taurus handgun. A photo showed the weapon appearing to have a silencer attached to the front of it.

Lanell Williams was immediately arrested, while his 46-year-old mother Andrea Williams — whom authorities said looked "nervous" at the metal detector — initially left the building but was soon apprehended. She has been charged with complicity and illegal conveyance of deadly weapon or dangerous, while her son faces accusations of carrying a concealed weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.

No one was hurt in the incident, and the county says "no other threats were detected." A source told 3News the building was also never placed on lockdown.

The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation into the matter, and the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force is also involved. Officials have not indicated what the man's motives for having the weapons might have been.

UPDATE: Both Lanelle and Andrea Williams have been charged on two felony counts: illegal conveyance and carrying a concealed weapon.
