MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — Officials in Maple Heights are investigating a house fire the took the life of a 62-year-old man on Monday evening.
Police and fire crews were called to the scene at around 8:40 p.m. in the 17000 block of Maple Heights Blvd. Maple Heights police officers arrived first and learned there was an adult man trapped inside the house on the second floor. They could not get into the house due to the amount of smoke.
Fire crews arrived and found the victim. He was transported to Bedford Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
According to the American Red Cross, five other adults survived the fire and are being given immediate financial assistance, in addition to recovery help that includes guidance and referrals for additional community resources.
“Our heart goes out to the family of the resident who perished,” said Renee Palagyi, regional senior disaster program manager for the Red Cross of Northern Ohio. “We are grateful for the volunteers on our Integrated Care and Condolence Team who help give comfort to the loved ones left behind.”
The Ohio Division of State Fire Marshal’s office and Maple Heights Police Department are conducting the investigation.
