Multiple people taken to hospital after rescued from apartment fire in Maple Heights

Firefighters responded to the scene around 2:43 a.m. where they reported heavy smoke from the third floor 'with multiple victims on the balconies.'

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — Multiple people were rescued in Maple Heights early Friday morning as firefighters battled a fire at an apartment complex in the 5300 block of Lee Road.

Firefighters responded to the scene of the three-story building around 2:43 a.m. where they reported heavy smoke from the third floor “with multiple victims on the balconies.”

The Maple Heights Fire Department, which shared more than 20 photos from the scene on Facebook (see below), reports that multiple people were taken to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries was not provided.

Officials say the fire was quickly brought under control. 

The cause remains under investigation.
