EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — Residents at a senior apartment complex in East Cleveland are speaking out about conditions inside the facility.
According to multiple residents who spoke with 3News, there is an infestation of mice at Owls Nest.
"I started hearing sticky traps clicking and I took the clothes that I had on that day and I left in my nightgown that night, nightgown and slippers," resident Mary Thomas said.
That was eight nights ago, when Thomas said she finally had enough and had her son pick her up.
She isn't the only resident with concerns.
"I'm nervous because I have to leave lights on. I'm scared to go to the bathroom, I'm afraid to cook in the kitchen. I'm downstairs first thing in the morning, because I'm scared to be upstairs in the house, because I don't know what's going to run out in front of me," Loretta Bryson said.
The women say the rodents are a problem that's been growing worse over the past couple of months, but mice aren't the only pests at the complex. Cockroaches are also making their situation unlivable.
Thomas says she has spent around $400 on mice mitigation, including sticky traps and and powder that is supposed to deter the rodents.
"I told management I refuse to give them more money. I called Fairstead (management) more than once. I called many times about this problem. And the sticky traps for the mice also double as sticky traps for roaches. I didn't know," Thomas said, adding that she plans to move in with family because of the rodent infestation.
3 News reached out to Fairstead Management LLC, who replied with this statement from a spokesperson: "We are committed to working with our residents to maintain Owls Nest as a high quality, affordable community. We currently have two external extermination companies providing services to the property who are working to address these issues as quickly as possible."
