ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — Northeast Ohio got a visit from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on Wednesday as he spoke at the dedication and grand opening of the new Rocky River Police Department on Hilliard Boulevard.
DeWine congratulated police departments across the state for their efforts to fight crime and stop the drug trade.
Not surprisingly, the governor also talked about Ohio's ongoing battle against the COVID-19 pandemic and revealed that he is working on plans to get more residents vaccinated.
"We will be announcing tomorrow (Thursday) incentives aimed at the problem talking about number of young people need to get vaccinated," DeWine explained.
The governor did not provide any details about the incentives.
Wednesday's visit to Rocky River came just one day after Gov. DeWine hosted a statewide press conference regarding the current status of COVID-19 in Ohio.
"The bottom line is that we’re seeing our highest levels ever of hospitalizations among those under 50 years old," said Governor DeWine. "Those who are getting very sick, being hospitalized and dying of COVID are getting younger and younger. And it is because they are not vaccinated."
