Grand opening held for newly expanded Cleveland Vet Center in Oakwood Village

The state-of-the-art space provides more than 4,500 square feet for veterans to meet and bond with fellow former soldiers and engage with the community.

OAKWOOD VILLAGE, Ohio — Friday was a special day for the newly renovated Cleveland Vet Center in Oakwood Village, which held an open house to enroll veterans to the expanded VA facility.

The state-of-the-art space provides roughly 4,635 square feet for veterans to meet and bond with fellow former soldiers and engage with the community through scheduled activities. It also provides areas for individual, couple, and group counseling.

A notable part of today's open house involved officials giving information on the PACT Act, which expands federal health care services to veterans exposed to toxic burn pits overseas. The law is partly named after Ohio native and Sgt. First Class Heath Robinson, whose widow Danielle lives in Sandusky and pushed for the legislation's eventual passage following her husband's death from cancer in 2017.

More than 150 people attended Friday's events, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a free barbeque for the public. Those interested in enrolling can visit va.gov/cleveland-vet-center.
