North Royalton community steps up for memorable after prom experience despite pandemic

"This is just something special that we were able to do. The generosity of local businesses, the community, the parents, that's how we got it done."

NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio — When prom was canceled for North Royalton high school seniors, their community stepped in big time.

Some of the parents are a part of the "North Royalton After Prom Committee", usually planning that part of the night so teens have a safe and fun place to go after prom.

With that out of the mix, the committee stepped up big time to make after-prom memorable regardless.

The parents usually hand out gifts like Amazon Echos, coffee makers, even televisions, but this year the staff drove to each student's house to drop off the gifts.

"We all know what our 2020 seniors went through," parent Lori Felton told 3News. "This is just something special that we were able to do. The generosity of local businesses, the community, the parents, that's how we got it done."

And the generosity of the community and the after prom committee is not lost on this year's graduating class.

"This is awesome," senior Simon Antonio says. "It really shows how much people care about us and it's really cool that they set something up like this."

North Royalton's senior class of 2020 graduated at the end of May.
