Parma apartment complex catches fire, significant damage sustained

No injuries were reported according to the Parma Fire Department.

PARMA, Ohio — A seventh floor apartment at the Regency Apartments in Parma caught fire on Saturday causing severe damage to several nearby units.

At approximately 4:23 p.m., the Parma Fire Department received a call about a fire at 5500 Laurent Drive (building D). When firefighters arrived at the apartment complex, they found heavy fire visible from outside of the building.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly after initial attempts to control the fire began.

Once the fire was put out, crews completed a search for any residents that may have been trapped. No injuries were reported according to the Parma Fire Department.

Fire crews from Independence Fire, North Royalton Fire, Seven Hills Fire and Parma Heights Fire Department assisted Parma Fire.

The Parma Fire Department also thanked the Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights Fire Departments for their role in assisting with the put out effort.

"We would like to thank our mutual aid partners for their assistance on scene as well as the Brooklyn Fire Department and Brooklyn Heights Fire Department for assisting the city by covering ambulance calls while the fire was being brought under control. The American Red Cross are assisting a displaced family consisting of one adult and three children.
