A 41-year-old Parma man is in police custody in connection with the death of his 18-month-old son, Nicholas Lawrence Shorter.
According to the release, the man walked in to the lobby of the Parma Police Station, around 9 p.m. Saturday, wanting to turn himself in for a crime.
Officials then learned that the man's 18-month-old son was in his car parked outside the station.
The child was found unresponsive and not breathing.
He was transported to University Hospitals Parma Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police say the child's father had cuts on both of his arms and was taken to Metro Hospitals for his injuries and remains under police guard while being treated.
Upon release, police say he will be taken back to Parma Jail.
The incident remains under investigation.
