Teen arrested after allegedly leading Parma police on chase involving stolen Hyundai

Parma police took one suspect, a 17-year-old boy, into custody. Officials say that he had an active warrant for his arrest for carrying concealed weapons.

PARMA, Ohio — A teen has been arrested after allegedly leading Parma police on a chase that ended in Cleveland and involved a stolen vehicle.

The incident began on Friday, Aug. 23, at around 1:45 a.m., when officers received a notification from a license plate reader that a stolen Hyundai Elantra was traveling eastbound on Brookpark Road near West 130th Street.

Parma police say that officers saw the vehicle traveling northbound on Knollwood Drive with three occupants inside the car. The vehicle then accelerated at a high speed northbound and then westbound on Brookpark Road.

Eventually, officers initiated a chase as another officer put out stop sticks near Tiedeman Road and Brookpark Road. The stolen vehicle then drove into oncoming traffic to avoid the stop sticks.

The pursuit then went into Cleveland, where the suspect vehicle "began smoking heavily as it appeared to experience a mechanical failure," according to police.

Eventually, the vehicle turned northbound onto West 65th Street from Denison Avenue and went off the road to the right and into a parking lot.

"The three occupants of the vehicle bailed out of the car as it was still moving, and the vehicle continued to roll forward where it struck the porch of 3465 West 65th Street. All three occupants fled on foot eastbound through a yard as officers pursued the males on foot," said Parma police in a release.

Parma police took one suspect, a 17-year-old boy, into custody. Officials say that he had an active warrant for his arrest for carrying concealed weapons. He was taken to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center.
