PARMA, Ohio — The City of Parma is mourning the death of one of its police officers.
According to the City of Parma Police Department's Facebook page, Sgt. Nicholas M. Hunter died after suffering a medical emergency while on his way to work on Monday. Having been promoted to sergeant on November 5, 2003, he was the department’s senior ranking sergeant.
The department also noted that Sgt. Hunter received several different commendations throughout his career, which began after he graduated from the Cleveland Heights Basic Police Academy in 1993. Prior to becoming a police officer, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1984-1990 before being honorably discharged.
"He was well-liked by his subordinate officers, as well as his peers and supervisors," the department wrote on Facebook. "Sgt. Hunter will be greatly missed by all."
