PARMA, Ohio -- Fire and police crews have recovered the body of a boy from Veteran's Memorial Park.
According to the Parma Fire Department, crews had been searching the waters Monday afternoon on a report of a missing boy.
The boy, about 15 or 16 years old, has been identified as Parma Senior High School junior Sergey Pivovarnik.
Grief counselors were available for students affected by his loss at the Parma Senior High Little Theater until 3 p.m. Monday, according to the school district's website.
Also posted on the district website: "We regret to inform you of a terrible tragedy that has occurred today. After football practice, a few of our players decided to swim in the pond on State Road. One of our students drowned. Sergey Pivovarnik was a Junior at PSH, scheduled to enroll in the Medical program at Normandy next year. He was a member of the football team, peer mentor, student worker, and all around great kid."
They will be available again 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday and for as long as they are needed.
A witness told fire crews that three boys were out on the pond at one point, at the park off of State Road.
No other information has been released.
