GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — A church in Garfield Heights is looking for the driver responsible for plowing into their place of worship over the weekend, then leaving without a trace.
The crash happened at the New Journey Church on Osborn Road. Pastor Charles Redmon said a car hit the church and caused significant damage.
Pictures show bricks toppled over and a wall partially caved in, leaving a gaping hole in one of the church rooms.
"We pray (the driver) is ok, but they just drove away and didn't contact the proper authorities to alert them of the issue. We are a church that is very involved in the community, we are a loving and giving place, and now we are looking for some of that love and support in return!" Pastor Redmon said.
Unfortunately, the church did not capture the incident on surveillance cameras. Church leaders say they are reaching out to neighbors in hopes that someone has answers.
Pastor Redmon says the church has filed a police report, but the biggest issue is worrying about how to pay for the damage.
"Our insurance will likely not cover this damage, unfortunately, so we will be out thousands of dollars ... but we are a very small ministry and are not really able to afford such a loss right now!" the pastor said.
Anyone with information on this incident should contact Garfield Heights Police Department, or the New Journey Church at (216) 849-3590.
