STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — Red Lobster will be closing 23 of its restaurants nationwide at the end of this month, including its location in Strongsville, according to a U.S. Bankruptcy Court filing dated Aug. 22.
The announcement comes after Red Lobster filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May and shuttered dozens of locations across the nation. Ohio was not impacted by the initial closings.
However, in early June, Red Lobster revealed in bankruptcy court documents a list of more than 130 additional locations it may want to close if it's unable to renegotiate their leases. Restaurants in Strongsville and Parma, as well as five other Ohio locations, were on that list.
The Florida-based seafood chain, which won fans with inventions like popcorn shrimp and “endless” seafood deals, has been struggling in recent years with rising lease and labor costs.
