'We're tired of this': Rodents taking over Granada Gardens Apartments in Warrensville Heights

Residents say mice, mold, and lack of repairs are making their living situation horrible.

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — From the outside, the Granada Gardens Apartments in Warrensville Heights look clean and well kept. But from the inside, photos tell a very different story.

"I've killed seven mice," Cynthia Weatherspoon, a resident for five years, says.

The building is infested with mice, there is mold all over, and the garbage piles up with no one to dispose of it.

"I can't get up to the fourth floor to my apartment because the elevators are never working," another 81-year-old tenant claims.

What else isn't working for these senior citizens? Sustainable living. On Tuesday, they took their complaints to City Hall, where Building Commissioner Benjamin Brown says the Granada has 93 violations and counting.

"We also have over 30 court summonses at the property going back to '22," Brown added.

The building has been under several management groups, but more recently, its Ohaven. The city says that's been the problem — finding those who are responsible for the conditions.

"So we started the process of reissuing notices to get the ownership in court out of New Jersey," Brown said.

Meanwhile, the Better Business Bureau has been grading the property, giving it an F (hint: that's not for "fantastic").

"They haven't done anything except take care of the roaches," Thomas Bricker told 3News.

There are 800 units in the Granada, and many of the tenants are seniors with disabilities.

"We're tired of being shut up," Witherspoon says. "We're tired of this."

We reached out to Granada owner Ohaven, but officials were unavailable for comment.
