STRONGSVILLE -- Ziggy the cartoon has resided on the city of Strongsville's water tower for decades.
But soon, Ziggy will cease to exist as the Cleveland Water Department plans to paint the tower this summer.
The cartoon has watched over Strongsville since 1975, according to the city. The city says a group of teens painted Ziggy, and at the time, officials thought it was a simple tribute to the comic strip cartoon.
In reality, the teens were actually paying homage to David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust.
Details on the water tower's new design have not been posted.
