Students at Shaker Heights High School were forced to evacuate Friday following a fire inside the building, officials confirm.
Students have been dismissed for the rest of the day, as fire crews will not allow them to return to the main building due to smoke. It is unknown at this time what caused the fire, although it appears no one was hurt.
The district says students who were unable to go home on their own (including those with special needs) have been taken to the High School's north gym to await pickup from parents. Accommodations will also be made for those unable to be picked up.
In addition to the high school students, several kids from Shaker Heights Middle School were also in the building visiting the planetarium. They were evacuated with the rest of the students, and have since returned to the middle school.
