SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — An increase in car break-ins is causing some Northeast Ohio communities to be on high alert.
Thieves appear to be going from city to city.
Surveillance video showed someone casing a home in Lakewood. The same happened in Shaker Heights.
On Tolland Road in Shaker Heights, residents were seeing people milling around their back yards. Surveillance tapes show what appeared to be teenagers jumping fence after fence.
These incidents began on May 26 and continued with another round early Monday morning.
Several residents in the area called 911. And there were several calls.
They were all helping out police until the suspects were caught. Shaker police officers captured it all on dashcam. Two young men were caught, but police think there are more suspects out there. But the apprehension of the two men would not have happened without the help of the community.
Police are seeing crimes like these happening in other communities. Mentor, Concord, Kirtland, and Chagrin Falls are among those areas experiencing car break-ins.
Law enforcement officials say don't leave valuables in your car even if it's in your driveway. Remember this line: Out of sight, out of mind.
