SOLON, Ohio — Solon police are investigating after receiving multiple reports of gunshots being fired at an apartment building on Tuesday afternoon.
Solon police say they responded to a call for shots fired at the Solon Park Apartments on Park North Drive at 4:52 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located several people who had allegedly been involved in the incident in one of the apartments. None of the individuals had gunshot wounds.
Police say that initial investigations revealed that there had been a domestic dispute between a 23-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, who are residents at the Solon Park Apartments.
"It resulted in both of those parties calling people that they knew to respond to the apartment to intervene in the dispute. As the rival groups arrived on scene, a physical fight broke out, involving between 12 to 15 people, according to witness accounts. The fight broke up after a gun was fired during the fracas," said Solon police in a release.
As a result of the alleged incident, police detained five individuals from the apartment who were interviewed at the Solon Police Department. A 29-year-old man from Euclid reported to officers that he was the one who fired a weapon "into the air." The man was later taken to an area hospital for treatment of a possible head injury.
"Some of the involved parties showed signs of being in a fight, including some visible superficial injuries and disheveled appearance," said Solon police.
According to police, no one else requested medical treatment for any injuries following the incident and the five individuals were released without charges.
Solon police officers also stopped three vehicles leaving the area as they arrived on the scene. A 22-year-old Cleveland man, who had a warrant for his arrest from Cleveland police for felonious assault, was taken to Solon Jail and turned over to Cleveland police.
Additionally, four shell casings were found outside of the apartment building and police seized five handguns from the apartment where the alleged incident took place.
Anyone with videos of the incident is asked to contact at Detective Jim Fiktus at jfiktus@solonohio.org.
