SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The South Euclid Fire Department responded to a fire at a commercial building on Sunday night.
Fire crews arrived to the scene on Greenvale Drive at approximately 10:15 p.m. to visible smoke. Aid from other fire departments was immediately requested as South Euclid crews began efforts to put the fire out.
Fire crews from Cleveland Heights, University Heights, Shaker Heights, Lyndhurst, Mayfield Heights, Beachwood and Euclid aided South Euclid crews in the effort.
No injuries to firefighters or civilians have been reported according to a post on South Euclid Fire Department's Facebook page.
3News reached out to the fire department Monday afternoon. A representative from the department said that although the investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing, lightning strikes have not been ruled out due to the severe weather that made its way through the area on Sunday evening.
South Euclid Fire also confirmed that there were 220 lightning strikes within an 8 mile radius within an hour time frame last night.
Fire crews were on the scene for approximately three and a half hours Sunday evening and into Monday morning before the blaze was under control.
