The city of Parma will host a parade and a Ukrainian Independence Day program this Saturday, August 27.
The parade in Parma's Ukrainian Village will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will start on Grantwood Drive. It will continue north on State Road to the Ukrainian Heritage Park.
The parade will include numerous youth, social, religious, arts, community/dance organizations, local high school bands and representatives from other ethnic communities and businesses.
Upon completion of the parade, a short program will take place at the Ukrainian Heritage Park to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day. The program will feature a flag raising ceremony, a Naturalization Ceremony and words from Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter and U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH). Senator Portman has been named this year's Grand Marshal.
The official schedule is as follows:
- 10:30 a.m. - Parade line-up
- 11:00 a.m. - Parade start
- 12:15 p.m. Flag raising and Independence Day program
