BEDFORD, Ohio — A Bedford man is facing a reckless operation citation after police say he drove around a stopped school bus, onto front lawns, just missing a girl getting off of a school bus.
The incident was caught on bus surveillance cameras.
“I’m very grateful that her bus driver called her back or we would be having a different conversation today,” says Carol Davison who is the student’s mother.
“I’m very thankful that she was paying attention and very aware of what was going on around her.”
The incident happened Wednesday afternoon and by Thursday police had found the driver.
He admitted to driving the vehicle and police say his excuse was that he had bad brakes.
11-year-old Emma Davison says she’s a little shaky getting off the bus now and concerned for others.
“Someone else could do the same thing just with other people and I just hope that if that does happen those people are okay,” she says.
Carol believes if in fact the driver had brake problems he should’ve come back to apologize.
She wants drivers to be more aware of their surroundings.
“Know that there’s children around and you have to stay off your phone, pay attention and when a bus is stopped, you need to stop.”
