MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Walmart store in Mayfield Heights will close its doors next month, a company official confirmed with 3News on Tuesday morning. The store, which is located at 6594 Mayfield Road, will be closed to the public by Friday, May 20.
“This decision was not made lightly and was reached only after a thorough review process,” Felicia McCranie, a communications director for Walmart, tells 3News. “Our decision is based on several factors, including historic and current financial performance, and is in line with the threshold that guides our strategy to close underperforming locations.”
McCranie says this closure “is in no way a reflection” of the hard work from their employees.
“We are hopeful the associates at the store will want to continue their career with Walmart by transferring to another store," McCranie said. "All associates in the store will be eligible for transfer. We have invested in our associates and we want to keep them in the Walmart family.”
Walmart said their company offers 21 stores in and around the greater Cleveland area, adding that 15 of those locations are within a 30-minute drive.
“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our Mayfield Heights location,” McCranie said. “We look forward to serving them at our other stores in the surrounding communities and on walmart.com.”
