Water quality for Friday is poor at Edgewater Beach

Water quality at Villa Angela Beach is good, however.

If you're planning a Lake Erie beach trip, you might want to wait a day, depending on which beach you wanted to hit up.

That's because the predicted water quality for Edgewater Beach for Friday, June 11 is poor. That's due to a high level of E. coli bacteria in the water.

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) says, the percent exceedance probability of the bacteriological criteria for Edgewater Beach on Friday is 51.5% and the predicted concentration of E. coli in the water at that beach is 73 MPN/100mL.

However, if you are set on having a beach day Friday, Villa Angela Beach may be your best bet. The predicted water quality there is good, meaning there is not enough bacteria in the water to be of a concern. The percent exceedance probability of the bacteriological criteria for Villa Angela Beach is 32.1% and the predicted E. coli concentration there is 91 MPN/100mL. That's according to NEORSD.

NEORSD uses modeling results generated by a program called Virtual Beach 3.0. The software does tend to underestimate the E. coli concentration, so NEORSD also uses data from previous years and incorporates it into its daily calculations. So when the predicted E. coli concentration generated by Virtual Beach 3.0 exceeds these threshold limits, the true E. coli concentration is expected to exceed the Bathing Water Recreational Criteria of 235 MPN/100mL.

NEORSD updates the water quality predictions daily. For that information, you can follow them on Twitter @NEORSDbeaches, or you can view the daily reports HERE.
