WESTLAKE, Ohio — A Westlake police officer is being honored Friday morning for his life-saving actions from earlier this year.
It was back in the summer when Patrolman Ryan Jasinsky saved a woman’s life with his response to a motorcycle crash that left her badly injured – which is why Jasinsky is receiving the Life-Saving Award from the American Police Hall of Fame.
The situation unfolded on June 12 while Jasinsky was on duty and on his way to another assignment in Cleveland. That’s when he was flagged down by people near the split of I-90 and I-71 for a motorcycle accident.
First responders were not on the scene yet as Jasinsky found the woman had been ejected from her motorcycle and bleeding badly roughly 50 feet over the guard rail. Jasinsky, who has a background in the United States Navy as a SEAL Operator on SEAL Team Ten, used two tourniquets as well as a large amount of trauma gauze and other medical supplies to help stabilize the woman.
Within the next 10 minutes, Cleveland EMS arrived on the scene to assist the treatment of the victim and transport her to MetroHealth Medical Center. Surgeons later confirmed that she would not have survived if not for the actions of Jasinsky.
Jasinsky has been part of the Westlake Police Department since March 17, 2020. He was also sworn in as a Special Deputy United States Marshal in May of this year where he works with the Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force for Northern Ohio.
