CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Lake, Cuyahoga and Geauga counties, as areas of Northeast Ohio are experiencing snow.
The Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect until midnight on Thursday, Nov. 21.
3News Chief Meteorologist Betsy Kling says she expects 1-3 inches with the possibility of 5 inches in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, lake-effect snow accumulations of up to 3-5 inches are expected.
In Lake County, the NWS is calling for approximately 1-4 inches and adds that the heaviest snow with rates of up to one inch per hour are expected through 8 p.m.
"The heaviest snow will be focused in the southwest portion of the county," the NWS advises.
The NWS is also cautioning drivers to "plan on slippery road conditions and poor visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday evening commute."
This Winter Weather Advisory comes amid 3News' Weather Impact Alert Day, as Northeast Ohio is getting its first taste of wintry weather.
"By this evening, we'll begin to turn on the lake effect machine briefly. This will likely bring a better burst of snow into lakeshore communities that could put down a coating up to a slushy inch or two by daybreak tomorrow," said 3News' meteorologist Matt Wintz. "As always with lake effect, it's all about location and where this band sets up. Our best chance for accumulating snow is tonight once the sun sets with tricky travel possible for some tomorrow morning."
