MILAN, Ohio — Over one year after the passing of former Navy corpsman Maxton Soviak, his former high school and football team continued to remember his legacy.
Prior to Edison High School's first home game of the season on Friday night against Western Reserve, Soviak was remembered in a ceremony.
Before the national anthem. Soviak's No. 27 jersey was retired and given to his family.
A replica honoring Soviak was also revealed at the game and will be hung on the side of the fieldhouse.
Soviak tragically passed away a little over a year ago in a terrorist attack at the Kabul Airport in Afghanistan.
Edison High School came out victorious on Friday night, beating Western Reserve 28-7. The Chargers will compete against Bellevue in a non-conference game on Friday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. in Milan.
