An investigation is underway by the Ohio State Highway Patrol after a two-vehicle fatal crash occurred early Sunday morning on Oct. 25, in Wayne County.

Around 7:10 a.m., a crash occurred on County Road 54 (Hutton Road) just north of County Road 226 (Schellin Road) in Green Township.

The initial investigation noted that A 2010 Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on County Road 54 while a 1999 Freightliner commercial tractor-trailer was pulling out of his driveway to turn southbound onto County Road 54. After the tractor-trailer stopped to negotiate the tight turn, the Nissan Altima struck the left side of the tractor-trailer.

The Wayne County Coroner's Office pronounced the 2010 Nissan Altima driver, Kevin Grave, dead at the scene. Grave, a 35-year-old male, was a resident of Sterling, Ohio, and was following safety precautions, wearing his seat belt when the accident occurred.

The operator of the 1999 Freightliner commercial tractor trailer was Anthony Wilden. Wilden was not injured in the crash and was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Central Fire Department and EMS, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, North End Garage, Wayne County Coroner Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s traffic crash reconstruction unit all assisted at the accident scene.

Currently, the crash is under investigation. Authorities believe that alcohol and drugs were not involved in the fatal crash.
