MARION, Ohio — A man and his girlfriend are awaiting their sentencing after they were charged in connection to the death of the man's 3-year-old son, Kashon Cochron.
Marion police said officers were called to a home on Bennett Street on July 5 for a report of the boy not breathing.
Officers began giving the child CPR until medics arrived to take the child to Marion General Hospital where he later died.
According to documents filed in Marion County Municipal Court, the Lucas County Coroner's Office found Kashon suffered from malnourishment, dehydration and trauma to the head and neck.
Kashon was also abused for an extended amount of time, according to the autopsy and further investigation.
Shaquille Cochron, Kashon's father, was acquitted on murder charges on Monday. He was found guilty on a charge of felonious assault and two counts of child endangerment, according to Marion County prosecutor Ray Grogan.
Grogan said Shaquille could face more than 20 years in prison.
Shaquille's girlfriend Angel Morgan entered a guilty plea last month to one charge of felonious assault and one count of endangering children. The murder charges against her were dismissed. According to court records, she faces up to 12 years in prison.
